Aurora champions (both female and male) serve as the representatives of Aurora within their respective institutions. They play a crucial role in supporting participants and leading their institution's involvement with Aurora. The ideal candidate(s) for this position should possess seniority, influence, and a genuine interest in addressing the challenges faced by women in higher education.
Every year Advance HE brings the Aurora champion community together through four in-person events held across the UK and Ireland. These events aim to explore the opportunities and challenges in advocating for gender diversity in leadership, and to provide a networking opportunity for champions to share best practice. Feedback shared regarding the programme is also collated and used to influence any changes and enhancements to Aurora over the following year.

Role of the Aurora Champion
Each institution has been asked to nominate an in-house ‘Aurora champion’ who will lead on the selection process of participants and be the main point of contact between Advance HE and the institution throughout the programme.
Some institutions have chosen to split this role into two – one as the senior sponsor for Aurora and one to manage administrative details.
The Aurora Champion/s Will:
- Identify and select participants to attend Aurora.
- Brief the participants on the programme and the commitment expected of them.
- Ensure that there is a mentor (male or female) for each participant.
- Support the mentors and participants at their institution.
- Ensure all delegates receive Aurora event details.
- Support the participants in using their new skills.
- Provide opportunities for Aurora participants to share their experience and learning.
