Part of the Collaborative Development Fund 2021-22, the Board Diversity Practice Project aims to collate, understand and share members’ practice to deliver on board diversity via the sharing of practice and lessons learned from members’ attempts to diversify their boards.
Developed in partnership with Advance HE, Perrett Laver and the University of Gloucestershire, these resources expand on the The Higher Education Board Diversity and Inclusion Toolkit in order to support the tackling under-representation the Board level.

Resource 1 - Workshop - Critically Reflecting on Your Board
Opening Board members up to internal conversations on the relationship between EDI (Equality, diversity and inclusion) and Board practices.
Resource 2 - Skills Audit Framework
A self-assessment exercise for your Board to highlight what each member brings to a committee and identify any gaps in ability and knowledge on your Board. This document was updated in 2022, with the updated section available as the standalone 'Skills Audit Framework 2022' document below.
Resource 3 - Guide - Job Advert and Person Specification
Containing examples and explanations designed to give Board leaders a wider view of what can be achieved with a job specification.
Resource 4 - Board Development Planner
This planner is designed to support Boards during their journey and is devised to be used in conjunction with the Toolkit. Feel free to use it as you wish to record thoughts, identify targets and deadlines.
