Diversifying Leadership returns with three new cohorts during the 2023-24 academic year to help tackle the under-representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic leaders in UK higher education institutions.
Participants explore concepts such as ‘authentic leadership’, allowing the self-identity of their own leadership style to emerge, as well considering their motivation and influences.
In this video, Dimple Hirani, Head of Organisational Development at the University of Westminster, discusses her experience of the Diversifying Leadership programme.
“It's instilled a different level of confidence in me, shifted my perception as a person and as a leader, and I think it's given me an opportunity to really think outside the box and in a way that I've not been able to do in my career,” Dimple said.
Sponsor
Key to success on Diversifying Leadership is having a sponsor from within the participants’ institution who will support them during the programme, and potentially beyond.
Dimple said, “The sponsor relationship has been fantastic and really empowering. Thinking about opportunities, challenges, taking my learning back from the programme and applying it within my institution and my role.
“Having my sponsor as a sounding board to bounce off ideas and thoughts and reflections was the most valuable part of the programme for me.
“I have started to think about and write down tangible actions no matter how small they are; those I need to achieve to get me to where I see myself in the next few years. The programme is giving me real clarity in terms of my vision and career goals.”
