Dr Nicola Rollock is deputy director of the Centre for research in race and education at the University of Birmingham.
She is interested in how racially minoritised groups manage and survive racism within the education system and the workplace. She is best known for her groundbreaking research The educational strategies of the Black middle classes and, the landmark report The Stephen Lawrence inquiry 10 years on, the conclusions of which were debated in parliament. Dr Rollock is editor of a new journal – Whiteness and Education published by Routledge – and author of a new book The Colour of Class: the educational strategies of the Black middle classes which documents how Black middle class families work to navigate their children successfully through the education system. Dr Rollock was included in the 2014 Powerlist of Britain’s most influential Black people and was recognized as a 2015 Woman of Achievement by the Women of the Year Council.
