Enterprise and entrepreneurship education can add value to the journey of learners, whether they are interested in starting a business venture or being enterprising when working for someone else in the private, public or voluntary and community sectors. A growing evidence base highlights the value of developing enterprising and entrepreneurial skills in learners; both in terms of facilitating the creation of new ventures while in education and upon graduation, but also by enhancing their employability.
The Embedding Enterprise in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences project was a shared project involving Advance HE, SFEDI, the UK Government recognised Sector Skills Organisation for enterprise and business support, and higher education providers across the sector.
The participation was £6,000 for Advance HE members and £7,000 for non-members.

Project Aims
The project aimed to:
- Understand current levels of enterprise within the curriculum, at a School/Department level, within Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
- Develop a clear image of what embedding enterprise in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences looks like
- Provide and share practical guidance and advice to support colleagues in embedding enterprise within the curriculum
- Provide a platform to share good practice and navigate challenges in embedding enterprise in the curriculum

Who should join the project?
The project sought to recruit Schools/Departments from the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines who:
- Wish to further their understanding of enterprise in the curriculum and how to embed enterprise effectively to maximise student outcomes
- Are committed to taking meaningful steps to design and introduce change in their practice at the level of programmes/individual courses, and/or strategic design for future change
- Appreciate the value in working in a shared environment, learning from others to enhance the student experience
- Have a broad interest in employability, enterprise and entrepreneurship and wish to identify how these topics can add value to the learner journey, regardless of discipline origination
Project structure
The project was designed to maximise the value of working alongside other institutions, while benefiting from Advance HE and SFEDI specialist support. The project structure allowed for knowledge and good practice exchange as well as bespoke consultative support to develop your institution’s expertise in embedding enterprise within the Arts and Humanities subjects. The project was comprised of:
- An Enterprise review
- An interactive event including all project leads
- An online meeting with project leads
- A bespoke individual workshop for each institution
- An interactive all-day collective event
- An end-of-project report
Why Advance HE?
