The University of East London joins De Montfort University and The University of Manchester as the third higher education institution to achieve a Silver Race Equality Charter award.
The Race Equality Charter (REC) helps higher education providers improve the representation, experience, progression and success of racially minoritised staff and students within higher education.
There are currently 112 REC members, holding 49 awards between them, only three of which are Silver.
Anne Mwangi, Head of the Race Equality Charter, said,
“Many congratulations to the University of East London on achieving a Silver Award. The award recognises the University’s commitment, leadership and significant progress in addressing inequality and promoting race equality across the whole institution.
“We look forward to working with University of East London to share their good practice so that other institutions can consider how this may apply in their contexts.”
Receiving the Silver recognition award is a testament to our ongoing commitment to promoting race equality and fostering an inclusive culture at UEL. This achievement underscores the hard work and dedication of our staff, students and partners in advancing equality and diversity across our institution.
“We are dedicated to enhancing the breadth of talent at our institution, a commitment that lies at the heart of Vision 2028, our 10-year strategy. Central to this vision is the unwavering focus on unlocking the full potential of every member of our community.
“While celebrating the strides already taken, reflected in this honour, we remain alive to the continuing hurdles and challenges and take this moment to reaffirm our pledge to continue our work to build an environment that truly celebrates diversity and inclusivity.”Professor Buge Apampa, Pro-Vice Chancellor Education & Experience, University of East London
