The UK Engagement Survey (UKES) has been running for over 10 years. In 2023 the survey received over 5000 responses from undergraduates studying at nine higher education institutions. Analysis of the responses provides interesting insights into how undergraduates in 2023 spent their time, participated in student engagement activities and developed their skills.
Patterns of participation in UKES have changed considerably in recent years, with resulting changes to the demographic profile of respondents. Given this context, this report focuses predominantly on insights provided by the 2023 data. The report includes analysis of how students from different demographic groups experienced student engagement activities and balanced their studies with other time commitments. While the report does not aim to draw sector-wide conclusions, the insights provide food for thought regarding the differing experiences between student groups. The findings may be of particular interest to those working in student engagement and student support.
