John's extensive contributions to national policy and framework reforms have had a global impact on universities, personnel, and student experiences. He has also strategically led the development of a sector-wide theme on leadership and culture, which has influenced higher education institutions.
Previously, John revolutionized the Digital Leaders Programme at Jisc, benefiting over 400 senior leaders in further and higher education, enhancing their understanding of the challenges and opportunities of digital education. He has also made significant and sustained contributions towards the implementation of the HEA Framework and UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) with universities worldwide, as well as towards the reform of national policies and frameworks. These contributions have been accessed by over 192 HE institutions, positively affecting universities, personnel, and student experiences in the United Kingdom and globally.
John's active influence in the development and establishment of a Digital Learning Design Framework and Toolkit has been widely shared across the higher and further education sector, reaching 81 learning organizations in the UK, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada, including learning development units in the court sector and Human Resources.
Additionally, John co-developed and led a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Review Service that influenced over 600 academic/teaching staff, students, and professional services/support personnel. This service produced a national report that influenced the practices and usage of 163 university VLE staff, leading to a positive student experience for thousands of students.
John is a member of The Institute of Leadership and Management, a Certified Online Learning Facilitator, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a holder of a Masters in Online and Distance Education (MAODE) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, and has contributed to UK Government policy, national and international sector publications such as Jisc, ALT, AdvanceHE, and EDUCAUSE.
